Journeying Towards The GTA
562 Dundas St West
In collaboration with Street Art Toronto

This mural was inspired by the vibrant and lively energy of the Dundas and Kensington intersection. Journeying to the GTA depicts a group of anthropomorphic characters commuting together toward the city. I aimed to capture the movement of stories through these characters, using a unique yet recognizable cartoon style.
The characters draw inspiration from Mexican-style cartoons and are shown traveling through grassy hills dotted with tall cacti, with the cityscape visible in the far-right corner. My intention with this mural was to create a dreamy landscape that merges the flow of stories and food, highlighting a key characteristic of our city in a surreal, imaginative way.

This design symbolizes the movement and migration of animals. I chose the ash tree as the focal point because it is a native species to Ontario, and there are a handful of cherished ash trees in the neighborhood, deeply appreciated by residents. Despite the recent decline due to invasive beetles, the community is heartened to see efforts to treat and preserve these trees. The mural celebrates the interconnectedness, movement, and migration of wildlife within the city. It also speaks to themes of diverse journeys, migration, and deep roots—much like the ash tree itself, which symbolizes both the resilience and the rich, shared history of the people and nature in this vibrant, multicultural neighborhood.

This design is a tribute to my Northern Mexican roots, inspired by memories of the desertscapes of Baja California I grew up around.
